One Hearing: I Don’t Expect Cam Martin to Play This Year
I’m ready to put it out there… I don’t expect Cam Martin to play again this year for Kansas. There could always be an injury that changes the trajectory of the season, but I’d be surprised to see Martin in game action for the Jayhawks this year.
I’ve heard the big man has openly discussed the possibility of him transferring after this season. To do that, Martin would have to take a medical redshirt. NCAA rules specify the injury must occur in the first half of the season, and the player must play less than 30% of games. Check and check.
The big man has struggled with injury issues all season. With Ernest Udeh breaking out and Zuby Ejiofor getting healthy, it doesn’t seem likely we’ll see Cam this year.
If Martin does transfer, he’ll have played four games in two years with the Jayhawks. So next season would be his seventh year as a college basketball player. If it does play out this way, I’d feel bad for Martin, who doesn’t fit Bill Self’s system and spent two years trying to make it work.
One Stat: OU shot 36% from the field
This is Oklahoma’s shot chart in two games vs. Kansas this year. Game 1 is on the left. Game 2 is on the right.
Pink is a made basket. Blue is a missed basket. Oklahoma scored a lot more around the rim in the first game against KU this year. Udeh changed the game.
