The Betting Line is Moving, and The Source Returns with a Take
The Source and I agree that one player is the key to KU right now
I AM NOT RECOMMENDING ANY BETTING OR WAGERS. THESE ARE MY INTERPRETATIONS OF TRENDS I FIND INTERESTING. I CAN'T GUARANTEE THE ACCURACY OF THIS CONTENT OR MY INTERPRETATION OF IT. THIS IS NOT BETTING ADVICE. IF YOU CHOOSE TO PLACE ANY BETS, YOU DO SO AT YOUR OWN RISK.
Before The Bets
The Source and I are #aligned on a major KU take right now. This is more about the rest of the season than today’s game vs. Oklahoma State, but it’s still relevant. I’m sharing it below, along with his additional thoughts on the Jayhawks.
The take: Kevin McCullar is the key to KU right now. If McCullar is playing well on offense, the whole team is more confident. Otherwise you have a key senior out there who is scared to shoot — and the team feeds off that.
Kenpom’s Offensive Rating metric measures a player’s offensive efficiency. Since Jan 1, McCullar’s offensive rating in KU’s wins averages out to 101.38. In losses, he is averaging 76.5.
The Source says the game is going well for KU if you see McCullar staying out of foul trouble and getting an easy bucket early. If McCullar’s first shot of the game is a three that badly misses, it can have longterm impact on KU.
The other players who can elevate KU are Dajuan Harris, KJ Adams.. and now Ernest Udeh.
The Source also says to watch KJ Adams early. His energy, confidence, and aggressiveness can be a clear sign of how the Jayhawks are feeling.
Udeh gives KU a completely different look both offensively and defensively. On defense, it changes how KU can defend ball screens. Offensively, he’s just a rim runner off screens. Don’t expect to see Udeh playing with his back to the basket looking to score this season.
The Bets
TODAY: Kansas Jayhawks vs. Oklahoma State So Hot Right Now Cowboys
Opening spread: Kansas favored by 2.5
Current spread: KU favored by 1.5 (I’m starting to see some lines tick back up to 2 points as of 4:35pm CT)
DraftKings is reporting 69% of bettors and 53% of money wagered is on Kansas to cover the spread. (via VSiN)
Action Network is reporting 39% of bettors and 22% of money wagered is on Kansas to cover the spread. It also indicates “Pro Money” is on Oklahoma State.
My Take:
I’ve gotten some feedback that people want to know what I’m actually betting, not just what the market is showing. So… I currently don’t have any action on this game. I’ll be looking to live bet it, instead.
Some pro money appears to be on Oklahoma State. KU is coming off two big wins with College Gameday on Saturday. It’s not the best “spot” for the Jayhawks, but I’m not betting against Bill Self in Feb.
