It’s a flawed team but it’s college ball so don’t count ‘em out. They’re not as bad as they looked today but clearly hadn’t recovered from the slugfest in Manhattan. A shell of a team without KJ on the floor and didn’t do themselves any favors today.
We’re missing those signature KU scoring runs. We had them pre conference, but now we’re getting them during deficits.
If I was to say identify an issue, it’s the production crew and keeping the crowd juiced during opponent timeouts. If the building is getting amped and TCU calls a timeout, they gotta keep the crowd engaged coming out of the TO.
Our bigs on the bench lack def awareness. This comes with time, but more playing time ain’t gonna fix it. This is developed in the film room.
The other concern is Gradey understanding when Jalen is not on the floor and the scoring is on him. He can be lost in the corner with Jalen on the court, those rare times that Jalen sits or the D clamping down on him, he has to demand the ball.
Pre-Covid, I thought the student section was pretty weak for several years. This year has been solid outside of the Indiana game when they didn't show. I don't think the scoreboard crew does anything unique anymore. Close games. Making shots. The Phog is still amazing.
Several years back they downsized the student section for more donor seating, too. I wonder if that coincides with the point where you think it started to downturn.
8) Why is it KU has come out with such little juice to start games ever since IU?
Other thought: other teams’ benches play way more loose+free. KU’s play on eggshells, scared any slight mishap will result in an immediate hook. Not sure the best at to get production.
Today was an embarrassment. You just don't lose this bad to a conference opponent. They've looked beat up and tired for the past 5 games. Even in the wins, they look mentally and physically spent. Self is renowned for his brutal practices during break when they don't have as many limitations on time. Is the lack of 9-10 guys being able to give them 10 minutes depending on situation costing Self now that he beat them up over the school break? Going back the last 2 weeks, I don't see how you recover completely without just giving some of the Top 7 guys time off. I'm talking only playing them 20 minutes a game to get their legs and brains back. Regardless of what happens on Monday at Baylor, I'm not sure I wouldn't put time limits on the starting 5 against Kensuckme. That game is completely irrelevant and if you want to win the conference and get that #1 seed in the NCAA tourney, you do what you have to to get this team rested physically and healthy mentally for the rest of conference play.
I think the backup bigs could get some major playing time against Kentucky. They need to throw bodies at Oscar anyway. The team really does look tired.
The Phog was pretty juiced today. I rarely watch on tv since I’m typically in the building. TV never does it justice.
Good to know. Student section size normal?

Felt like the team was tired, too. BRUTAL timing, really.
Was at the game. Nothing off in the building.

AFH is fine, seems loud as ever
good!
The radio guys said MJ was indicating his back still wasn't in good shape.
will ask around

Section U. I might check out if margin of victory has changed since then.

WVU they came out well. Not sure, but it's a problem they've gotta fix.

Todays game reminded me of Frank doing everything and just hoping someone else stepped up. Not great. We’ll see if Self can figure it out (he will).
Yup. Sherron had some games like that too. They’ll figure it out but it’s something to fix.
KU averages about 12 bench points per game...kind of concerning with how talented the Big 12 is this year
They’re tired. It’s pretty clear.
Phog was electric today. And energy lasted longer than I thought it would given the deficit.
good!
The old barn has been great this year- except for that one game where the corners were vacant.
good. hard to tell on TV!
