Gradey Dick landed a new NIL deal with Adidas this week. The announcement came with a picture of Dick wearing some Adidas clothes and not much else. No information on what the agreement means — or how much it's worth.
The Hearings can now confidently say: The Dick Man got paid.1
I'm HEARING Dick's deal with adidas is worth $100,000+. The belief is that the value falls in the six-figure range, while specific numbers and contract details remain unclear.
This isn't the most specific Hearing, but it sheds some light on often vague and confusing partnerships. These NIL deals are usually announced loudly on social media despite little actual explanation on what it means for the school or student-athlete. I’ve wondered what impact most deals actually make to college players. NIL rules and regulations remain non-existent, and most schools are still working out details on programs they’re comfortable with.
At least in this case, we're able to learn that Adidas values Dick in a meaningful way. It’s also good business to build favor with someone who will likely (yes, Hearing it) be a pro next season. Still, think about how many shots at The Hawk this money is worth! Adidas is putting money straight back into the Lawrence economy.2
The NIL group at KU, Mass St. Collective, also appears to be stepping up its game in recent months. We know Lance Leipold pushed for NIL in his decision to sign an extension with KU, and the results are immediately showing. The football team had no unexpected losses to the transfer portal this week and then flipped a local OL recruit from Baylor. No school is keeping all of its impactful players with a dysfunctional NIL program.
And we now know it's making a difference for our Beloved Dick.

I couldn’t resist. Thinking about ANY college kid in Lawrence pulling in that kind of money immediately takes me to “Dollar Night at The Hawk.”
I’ll notify winners via email to get your size and shipping address. Charlie Hustle will send the gear straight to ya. I’ll close entries on Tuesday, Dec. 13 at 9pm CT. The three swag winners will be announced around the following day. If you don’t want an entry, fill out this form and I’ll remove your email from the drawing: https://forms.gle/NZZUrvWRSZoQyGsA8
I’ll put all of the entries in a google sheet. Contestants with extra entries will be listed a corresponding number of times. The row of your google sheet entry is how winners will be determined. I’ll use a number randomizer to draw winners. If your entry is in row 149 and the randomizer pulls that number, you win!
