I wonder if Cuffe is also staying because if he left he would not find better housing, training facilities, food, hotels while traveling, etc. Just that alone might be worth staying while he gets an education.

Totally! It's a good situation for him.

Kind of interesting if the No Wait transfer rules means HS recruiting has to be altered to be a little more…honest, for lack of a better word, about playing time and where the staff see players.

But that 12th, and really 11th, scholarship slots mean much less when it’s much less likely dudes stick around to be 3-4 year players

The Portal is making a HUGE difference on HS recruiting. You nailed it. Why would a school take developmental projects that are 50/50 to work out when they can get sure things in the portal every season?

Never say never, but Harris may be the last of the UnderRecruited Dudes Who Come to KU and Blossom*. If you’re not a projected starter by year 2, not sure the staff sees a fit .

*And it was never guaranteed .Just as likely to get a Merv Lindsey or Rio Adams rather than a Frank/Graham scenario

I've gotta think Bill will keep a guy in the class like that, but... it'll be a lot more rare

That is a really interesting situation. I think I side with Cuffe here, only because self and the staff were the ones to offer him in the first place and it’s Kyles right to use up all 4 years of that scholarship even if he doesn’t end up playing meaningful minutes. I have no clue why someone would choose that path (NIL I guess) cuz I would care more about playing, but to each their own

We don't know (and I would highly doubt) that Cuffe has a "multi-year" scholarship and if not, KU is certainly not obligated to keep him, especially since we are one scholarship short for the next three years.

I guess it's like.. "what does an athletic scholarship mean?" especially for KU hoops where NIL is so major

Yes Mike, I think there is a lot of truth to that. Supposedly, the two are separate, but in reality I'm not sure that's correct. I think for the most part though, the kids want to be someplace where they can play first and then the money is second. 90% of them think they are good enough to play at the next level and that's ok. In fact, that's a good thing sports wise, but we all know it's a very small percentage that make it that far.

Right? I was debating writing this, but it's so unique and indicative of the current CBB climate...

The best scenario for Kansas basketball is foe Cuffe to leave , and we get the best 4 people we can find and fund for next year!
