An update on Hunter Dickinson 😬
Why I’m watching Harrison Ingram Closely 📈📈
The Latest on Hunter Dickinson
I can’t give an update on the portal without mentioning Dickinson as the headliner. Here’s the latest:
I was told early Wednesday morning that Dickinson will visit Georgetown and Maryland this weekend, with an additional stop at Michigan planned for next week. 247Sports has now verified the Georgetown and Maryland visits. The trip back to Michigan has yet to be confirmed.
I’m not sure KU fans should panic just yet. Again, Maryland and Georgetown are short trips away from his home in the D.C. area. However, I wont’t feel good about where KU stands until we get news of a visit to Lawrence.
What stands out to me is how KU is recruiting elsewhere. The Jayhawks haven’t acted on any backup plan, having lost out on their other two big men targets in Jamille Reynolds (Temple) and Kadin Shedrick (uncommitted, KU not in Top 5). I’m sure the staff is aware of other big men likely to hit the portal in the next few weeks.
I was told last night the conversations with KU and Dickinson have been legitimate. This is a fluid situation without much information. All signs with Dickinson until the visit news were fairly positive. Now — I’m not so sure.
Make sure to subscribe for updates as I get them.
Why I’m Watching Harrison Ingram Closely 📈
Former 5-star wing Harrison Ingram was rapidly trending up on my list of players to watch even before news of his visit to KU broke. Now 247Sports is reporting Ingram will visit Lawrence, and I think the Jayhawks have identified their top target on the wing.
Here’s why I’m watching Ingram:
Ingram’s been interested in Kansas since he first entered the transfer portal. The 6’7” wing has size and skillset to match an immediate need, as Kansas needs to fill the massive departures of Jalen Wilson and Kevin McCullar.
I’m generally Hearing expectations that the Jayhawks land him. I like KU’s chances here.
KU has a clear connection to Ingram. Three recent Jayhawks in Wilson, Latrell Jossell, and Gethro Muscadin, all played for the same AAU program, Southern Assault out of Dallas. I’ve been Hearing about Ingram as a possible KU target for an extended period of time.
North Carolina had previously been linked to Ingram, but I think the Jayhawks have been playing this quietly with a strong hand. Ingram also had a call with Kentucky, but I don’t view the Wildcats as serious contenders here.
It’s worth mentioning some other recruiting news from Wednesday morning here. Kansas wasn’t named among the 15+ schools who contacted star wing in Matthew Cleveland after he entered the portal Tuesday. It would make sense to for the Jayhawks to gauge Cleveland’s interest — unless they already feel really strong about their plan on the wing.
I will keep you updated as I hear more with Dickinson, Ingram, and anyone else who is in play for the Jayhawks.
Mike, what are your thoughts on KU and Timberlake?
