Pro Money Taking KU, and The Source Shares Bill Self's Message
The public is on Kansas State, but the betting line keeps going in KU's direction
I AM NOT RECOMMENDING ANY BETTING OR WAGERS. THESE ARE MY INTERPRETATIONS OF TRENDS I FIND INTERESTING. I CAN'T GUARANTEE THE ACCURACY OF THIS CONTENT OR MY INTERPRETATION OF IT. THIS IS NOT BETTING ADVICE. IF YOU CHOOSE TO PLACE ANY BETS, YOU DO SO AT YOUR OWN RISK.
Before The Bets
Here’s how The Source feels about tonight’s game vs. Kansas State.
Bill Self’s message to the team after winning at Kentucky can be summarized as “It doesn’t mean anything if we don’t get our mind right for Tuesday.” I was pumped to share this anecdote with you.
Much like the last game vs. Kansas State, The Source expects KU to try and limit Markquis Nowell’s contributions, or “cut the head off the snake.”
The Jayhawks executed perfectly in Game 1, holding Nowell to four points. The problem was KState’s bench scoring 31. KU can probably run that game plan back and expect better results.
The Source’s one other point of emphasis was turnovers. KU turned it over 15 times in Game 1, its highest mark since the Tennessee loss. Stay composed, take care of the ball, and everything should be OK.
The Bets
TODAY: Kansas Jayhawks vs. Kansas State Program Peaking Wildcats
Opening spread: Kansas favored by 6
Current spread: KU favored by 8.5 (as of 1:55pm CT)
DraftKings is reporting 24% of bettors and 29% of money wagered is on Kansas to cover the spread. (via VSiN)
Action Network is reporting 45% of bettors and 49% of money wagered is on Kansas to cover the spread. It also indicates “Pro Money” is on The Jayhawks.
My Take:
The majority of bets are on Kansas State, but the line is moving in Kansas’ favor. This is a strong indicator of Pro Money on the Jayhawks.
The point total of 145.5 also has my eye. Regulation in the first game ended with 144 points, and Kansas State shot well from deep. If you’re expecting a physical game, the under could make sense.
TL;DR: The only thing that matters is KU winning this game. I’d also hammer me saying something dumb on Twitter -145. Good value.
